Minutes for DCA meeting on Wednesday 6th November 2024

1/         Attendance:

  • Tony, Laim, Pat Kilboy, Saoirse, Ollan and Sean.
  • Apologies: None.

2/         Minutes:

  • The minutes of the 14th August 2024 meeting were read and adopted.

                                    Proposed – Tony.

                                    Seconded – Liam.

3/         Matters arising:

  • The matters arising will be delt with in the meeting.

4/         Correspondence:

  • There was no correspondence.

5/         Finance:

  • Ollan advised that Councillor M. Buttler would not be giving a contribution to the DCA this year. This leaves a void in the finances to cover the website and the chairman said he would ask other councillors for a contribution.

6/         Website:

  • There is a slight problem with the website which Tony is attempting to get resolved.

7/         Twitter Account:

  • Sean spoke about the titter account. He is going to include items of information on the account which show how fumes from vehicles harm human health. The information will appear one piece at a time to ensure reader engagement.

8.1/      Great Eastern Greenway:       Newry to Carlingford:

  • Liam advised that work was noticeable on the greenway.
  • Tony said that he would personally check on progress to avoid the confusion of third-party reports.
  • [Post addendum note: There are traffic lights just north of the border where work is being done on the boardwalk joining the two sections of the greenway. It looks as if it will be end of Q1- 2025 before this work is completed and we will be able to cycle from Portadown to Carlingford. Tony]

8.2/      Great Eastern Greenway:       Dundalk to Drogheda:

  • Liam said that he would take up extending the Red Barns Road cycle lane to Blackrock along the side of the road where there are no houses. This is called for as the former plans to build the cycleway in conjunction with the flood defences may have altered.
  • Tony is concerned that the Dundalk Local Area Plan 2024 did not mention anything about the Greenway from Dundalk to Drogheda.

9/         Dundalk Cycle Lanes

  • Ollan outlined the sequence of building the proposed extensions to the Dundalk infrastructure. He is concerned about the length of time the planning and building process is now taking.

10/       A.O.B

  • The meeting thanked Sean, Ollan and Tony in relation to the distribution of bike lights at DkIT in collaboration with M Buttler.

11/       The next meeting will be:

Date:    Wednesday 5th February 2025.

            Place:   Liam’s home
