Dundalk Cycling Alliance is a group of citizens who work together to promote cycling and advocate for cycling needs in Dundalk and its surrounding areas. We believe cycling is the most logical answer to some of the most pressing problems in Ireland today:
- Obesity
- Illnesses
- Pollution
- Climate change
The most sensible way to get exercise and reap the myriad benefits associated with being active, is by weaving activity into everyday life. Exercise requires motivation and self-discipline, it also often costs money if it is tacked on to our schedules as yet another chore. However, if you cycle to get to work, or to school, or to go shopping, exercise becomes an integral part of your life, something you don’t have to see as a separate item on the to-do list.
The problem is that cycling as part of daily life is not encouraged by the environment and infrastructure in our town at the moment. Road design is car-centric, and pedalling from place to place can be a scary adventure, especially for inexperienced cyclists. It shouldn’t be. Travelling by bicycle should be as everyday and unremarkable as doing so by car is now. Our goal is to help this vision become reality.
